SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processes for preparing metal fluorides and to processes for separating or purifying metals and metal compounds, used for metal fluorides. Method of separating metal fluorides comprises a step of providing a mixture containing MoF6 and UF6. Then UF6 is reduced to UF5. At the next step, UF5 and MoF6 or the product of its conversion, which can be obtained by further conversion of molybdenum fluoride into another molybdenum compound, is separated.
EFFECT: invention provides fast separation of molybdenum or its compounds from uranium and reduces the amount of radioactive wastes compared to established wet chemical procedures.
