METHOD OF ADJUSTING PROCESSORS IN BILATERAL COCHLEAR IMPLANTATION Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC A61B5/12 A61F11/04 H04R25/00

Abstract RU 2818251 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of adjusting processors in bilateral cochlear implantation. After reduction of postoperative edema of soft tissues in the ear in a patient having a cochlear implant on the second ear configured earlier, primary connection and adjustment of a speech processor of the cochlear implant system is performed on the side of the operated ear. After 4–6 months, the adequacy of the speech processor is diagnosed alternately on each ear, and then simultaneously on both ears. For this purpose, tonal threshold audiometry is first performed in a free sound field in the frequency range from 125 Hz to 8,000 Hz using an audiometer in a room where the background noise level does not exceed 60 dB. When transmitting an acoustic signal, the patient is placed in a sitting position so that on the sides there are acoustic loudspeakers, providing sound stimulation and located at angle of 45° at distance of 1 meter in relation to the microphone of the speech processor. Sequentially determining minimum threshold of sound sensation at each frequency by means of acoustic signal, initial intensity of which is 40 dB. When determining the sound perception threshold in the frequency range from 125 Hz to 8,000 Hz, the acoustic signal intensity is gradually increased by 10 dB from the sound recognition point at each tested frequency to 90 dB. In the absence of discomfort, speech audiometry is carried out in a free sound field with a speech processor on at an intensity of speech material of 65 dB. Patient is asked to repeat the speech material and the patient’s speech intelligibility is assessed.

EFFECT: providing assessment of communication skills of patients with deafness and prevention of discomfort.
