FIELD: medical immunology.

SUBSTANCE: described is a method for determining the complement-activating function of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies to predict the severity of COVID-19. Antibody content is determined by enzyme immunoassay and functional activity of the complement system in human blood serum. At that, complement consumption is determined by classical way by immune complexes containing SARS-CoV-2 antigen, coefficient of complement-activating function (KCAF) of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 is calculated as ratio of degree of consumption of complement, %, to content of these antibodies. If observing high KCAF values of more than 1 unit and complement activity of more than 60%, a hyperergic reaction of the body in recurrent infections and the need to use eculizumab, monoclonal antibodies to the C5 component, are predicted.

EFFECT: invention enables prevention of ARDS and multiple organ failure; invention can be used to predict the severity of COVID-19 in recurrent infection by determining the complement-activating function of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 and hyperactivity of the complement system by the classical pathway.
