SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to aerosol-generating systems. Aerosol-generating system comprises an aerosol-generating device and an aerosol-generating article. Aerosol-generating device comprises: a device body forming a cavity, an adjustable retaining element located in the cavity or adjacent to it and forming a passage, and an actuator configured to actuate the adjustable holding member between the receiving position and the holding position. At the same time the size of the passage cross-section is larger when the adjustable retaining element is in the receiving position than when the adjustable retaining element is in the retaining position. Adjustable retaining element forms an inlet section of the passage and an outlet section of the passage and comprises a surface formed between the inlet section of the passage and the outlet section of the passage. Wherein the longitudinal section of the surface has a curved shape, when the adjustable retaining element is in the retaining position, the part of the curved shape has a convex curve forming a narrowing in the passage at the turning point of the convex curve. Adjustable retaining element is compressed in the longitudinal direction when the adjustable retaining element is actuated from the receiving position to the retaining position. Aerosol-generating article is placed in the cavity.

EFFECT: retention in the cavity of the aerosol-generating device and the aerosol-generating articles with different diameters.
