SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of dye Isosulfan blue, which has found application, in particular, in chemotherapy of malignant growths. Method of producing dye by oxidation of disodium salt of 2-[bis[4-(diethylamino)phenyl]methyl]benzene-1,4-disulphonic acid (disodium salt of isoleuconic acid) is characterized by that the starting reagent used is toluene and includes steps a–f. At step a) catalytic chlorination of toluene is carried out to obtain mixture of 2-chlorotoluene and 4-chlorotoluene. At step b), combined oxidation of 2-chloro- and 4-chlorotoluenes obtained at step (a) is carried out in a medium of sulfuric acid to the corresponding aldehydes, followed by extraction of 4-chlorobenzaldehyde from the sulphonate. Then, at step c), complex of 2-chlorobenzaldehyde and concentrated sulfuric acid is sulphurized with oleum to form 2-chlorobenzaldehyde-5-sulphonic acid. At step d), 2-chlorobenzaldehyde-5-sulphonic acid obtained at step (c) is added to an aqueous solution of sodium sulphite to obtain a disodium salt of 2,5-disulfobenzaldehyde. Condensation of the disodium salt of 2,5-disulfobenzaldehyde with N,N-diethylaniline in the presence of a catalytic amount of hexachlorophosphazotriene is carried out at step e). At step f) disodium salt of isoleuconic acid is oxidised to final Isosulfan blue.
