FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an aqueous electrodeposition coating material containing at least one specific binder and at least one bismuth compound, to its use in a method for at least partial application of coating by electrodeposition on a base, to a coated base obtained as a result of said method, and to an article or component part containing said base. Described is an aqueous electrodeposition coating material (ECM) containing (a) at least one binder B1, which includes cationic or anionic groups and reactive functional groups, which are capable of undergoing cross-linking reactions with complementary reactive functional groups present in the cross-linking agent (b), wherein the reactive functional groups are hydroxyl groups (b) at least one CA cross-linking agent containing complementary reactive functional groups, (c) at least one bismuth compound and (d) at least one binder B2, wherein said binder B2 is different from at least one binder B1, and is obtained by reacting: (g-1) of at least one compound C1 containing at least one epoxy group, with (g-2) compound C2 containing at least one hydroxyl group, and (d-3) at least one C3 compound of general formula (I) in which R1, R2 are independently selected from hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl residue; R3 is selected from hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl residue; a is integer from 1 to 8; and b is integer from 1 to 4; and (d-4) optionally at least one C4 compound containing at least one primary and at least one tertiary amino group, which is characterized by that the molar ratio of compound C3 of general formula (I) to at least one compound C1 containing at least one epoxy group is 1:1–1:2.5. Method of at least partial coating of electroconductive base includes: (a) contacting an electrically conductive substrate, preferably connected as a cathode, with an aqueous electrodeposition material (ECM), (b) optionally rinsing the coating layer obtained after step (a), and (c) curing the coating layer obtained after step (a) or (b). Also described is a coated base for applications for the automotive industry, obtained using said method. R1R2N-(CH2)a-O-[CH2-CH(R3)]b-OH (I).

EFFECT: bismuth-containing electrodeposition coating material with improved catalytic activity is disclosed.
