SUBSTANCE: invention relates to unwinding a roll of a metal strip. Device comprises carriage, guide system, locking system, actuating system and element for separation of strip end from coil. Carriage is made with possibility of translational movement back and forth along the guide system. Locking system is located on the carriage and comprises the first shaped element and the second shaped element. Actuator system is designed to change the distance between said first shaped element and the second shaped element to establish the position of catching the end of the strip between these two shaped elements when they are spaced apart, and the position of gripping said end of the strip by these two shaped elements when they are approached to each other. Element for separation of the end of the strip from the coil is located on the first shaped element.
EFFECT: as a result, the design of the device and its operation are simplified.
