FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a linear ion accelerator with asymmetric phase-variable focusing and can be used in medicine, in particular for the treatment of oncologies by methods of hadron therapy, as well as for creation of small-size neutron generators, for diagnostics of properties of materials. To accelerate charged particles, a high-frequency electric field with a standing electromagnetic wave H10 is used, which is formed in a resonator of high-frequency electromagnetic oscillations with a closed output, as a result of reflection of electromagnetic wave H10 propagating from the source from the metal plug covering the output of this resonator. Features of the change in the nature of the electric component of such a wave in time are used in the design of periods of change in the equilibrium phase of the present invention so that in each period of change of the equilibrium phase of this invention, acceleration, phasing and focusing of the beam of charged particles is carried out in electrical centres with different equilibrium phases, differing in value by the forces of the electric component of the wave of the accelerating field, during each half-period of this wave. At that, lengths of periods of change of equilibrium phase and their components of drift tubes are reduced.

EFFECT: more efficient use of energy of the accelerating electric field for acceleration of charged particles with increased stability of the beam on the acceleration trajectory, reduced length of the accelerator and increased current of the accelerated beam.
