FIELD: conveyor systems.

SUBSTANCE: conveyor system, which includes a sprocket, a conveyor element, a sensor, a tension system and an electronic processor. The conveyor element is connected to the sprocket to move around the sprocket. The sensor is mounted adjacent to the sprocket and configured to generate an output signal indicative of detection of the conveyor element. The electronic processor is connected to the sensor and the tensioning system. The electronic processor is configured to receive an output signal from the sensor, calculate the trajectory of the conveyor element based on the output signal, determine the amount for the sag of the conveyor element based on the calculated trajectory of the conveyor element, and control the tension system based on the amount of the sag for the sag.
