FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of aluminium hydroxide powder with high chemical purity for production of raw material of alpha-phase aluminium oxide with high dispersity and chemical purity for use in chemical industry when making articles from ceramics. Method includes thermal treatment of aluminium oxide at temperature of 300–600°C up to 60 minutes and it is first added to an aqueous solution of acetic acid, heated to temperature of 10–120°C, and left in it for a period of up to 72 hours, and then adding it to ammonium hydroxide, heated to temperature of 10–30°C, and left in it for 30 minutes. Finely dispersed aluminium monohydrate obtained as a result of treatment is washed with water and isopropyl alcohol. Obtained aluminium hydroxide is dried at temperature of 50–150°C in low vacuum conditions.

EFFECT: obtaining highly dispersed aluminium hydroxide powder with low content of chemical impurities.
