FIELD: measurement.
SUBSTANCE: method relates to non-contact magnetometric diagnostics in the field of external monitoring of technical parameters of an underground pipeline completed by overhaul, reconstruction or construction, and can be used when inspecting the technical condition of an underground pipeline in the oil and gas industry, housing and communal services and other industries where underground and underwater pipelines are operated. Essence of invention is reduced to achievement of reliability of control of technical condition of protective coating of underground local section of pipeline due to increase of generator current density in places of its leakage into soil through defects in protective coating by means of creation of controlled load, which is achieved as follows: into the electrical circuit of the cable connecting the pipeline to the electrode, connecting a load in the form of a variable electrical resistance and adjusting the resistance in the circuit so to the electrode is directed current equal to ≤ 10% of the generator current excited in the pipeline.
EFFECT: as a result, the current density of the generator in places of its leakage into the ground will increase, which will make it possible to obtain reliable results on the technical condition of the insulating coating.
