FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: use for detection and delineation of sections of integrity of pipeline. Method includes excitation in AC pipeline by connection of AC generator to pipeline, measurement above and near pipeline of induction of alternating magnetic field created by current in pipeline, measuring components of magnetic field by moving sensors along pipeline, processing measurement results and determining location of anomalies of permanent and alternating magnetic field, magnetic moments and parameters of violation of insulating coating of pipeline, wherein at both ends of the surveyed section of the underground pipeline at a distance from its axis, which is more than 10 values of the depth of the pipeline, an electric current circuit is formed by setting: at the beginning of the section - the earthing electrode, which is connected by wire with generator, and generator with pipeline; and at the section end - an electrode for the return current removal, which is connected by the wire to the pipeline, or connecting generator ground terminal by wire with electrode installed on opposite end of diagnosed section of pipeline.
EFFECT: possibility of reducing the level of error.
