SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a keratin-based additive for imparting a crease-resistant and fire-retardant effect to tissue. Keratin-based additive with a non-crease and fire-retardant effect is obtained in an ideal mixing reactor with an overhead stirrer. Down-feather wastes are pre-cleaned and degreased with an organic solvent at the boiling point of the solvent (chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, etc.), weight ratio of feather to solvent is 1:20–50. Dissolution of down-feather wastes is carried out at temperature of 60°C and alkali concentration of 0.1–0.5 mol/l for 2 hours. Crystalline glyoxal and carbamide are added to the obtained solution in a weight ratio of 1:2–5, then phosphoric acid is added to pH=4.8, the use of glyoxal with carbamide imparts a crease-resistant effect to the fabric. Mixture is heated while stirring for 2 hours at temperature of 60°C and a fire-retardant additive is obtained.

EFFECT: invention enables to create a method for producing a keratin-based additive with a crease-resistant and fire-retardant effect for impregnating fabric, characterized by absence of keratin release and control of pH of reaction medium, obtaining refractory fabric with oxygen index of 31%.
