FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of authenticating documents. Claimed method is characterized by the fact that scanning the first page of the passport in the visible and infrared (IR) ranges, then performing the image background stabilization for each of the ranges, performing text/background segmentation by supplying a normalized image to the input of a convolutional neural network, performing image segmentation using Otsu binarization, wherein the obtained binary image is used to search for connectivity components, for which, when the size of a given threshold is exceeded, the area occupied by these components is determined. If the calculated area is higher than the specified threshold, then the text is considered to be present. Then a decision is made on the authenticity of the passport based on the condition: if the text is present in both halves of the image of the page obtained in the visible range, and is absent on one of the halves on the page image obtained in the infrared range, then the first page of the passport is considered to have passed the test.
EFFECT: high accuracy of authenticating documents.
