FIELD: measurement technology.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to kinematic methods for determining range to a ground source of radiation using a direction finder with spaced apart antennae placed on board an aircraft. Essence of the proposed method consists in the fact that the aircraft flight is carried out in the direction of the radiation source with the "Snake" maneuver in azimuthal plane along semicircles of radius R relative to initial line of sight of radiation source, at heading angle of radiation source |α(t)| < αback additionally determining the heading angle of the aircraft φ(t), as well as the range to the radiation source provided that the heading angle of the radiation source is determined based on the condition of equality of mean-square errors in determining range by both formulas.
EFFECT: reduced error in measuring range to a radiation source using a kinematic method when flying an aircraft in the direction of the radiation source.
