FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and specifically to production of isopropyl alcohol by catalytic hydrogenation of acetone. Disclosed is a method of producing a catalyst for liquid-phase hydrogenation of acetone containing not more than 30 wt.% nickel. This method involves impregnation of granular aluminium oxide with pore volume of up to 0.9 cm3/g with nickel nitrate with subsequent stages of drying, calcination and reductive activation. Calcination is carried out at a temperature of not higher than 200 °C. Then, before the activation step, nitrate ions are removed by treatment with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide in molar ratio of hydroxide/nitrate ions of not less than 1.1, followed by washing with water to a residual content of nitrate ions of not more than 2.5 wt.%.
EFFECT: low calcination temperature while maintaining catalytic activity of the obtained catalyst.
