FIELD: organic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and specifically to technology of producing isopropyl alcohol. Disclosed is a method of preparing a catalyst containing not more than 30 wt.% nickel for producing isopropyl alcohol during liquid-phase hydrogenation of acetone. Disclosed method involves impregnation of granulated aluminium oxide with pore volume of up to 0.9 cm3/g with nickel nitrate followed by drying, calcination and reductive activation steps. Calcination is carried out at a temperature of not higher than 200 °C, and then, before the activation step, nitrate ions are removed by treatment with an aqueous solution of ammonia with molar ratio NH3/nitrate of not less than 1.1, followed by washing with water to a residual content of nitrate ions of not more than 2.5 wt.%.
EFFECT: low calcination temperature in the method of preparing the catalyst while maintaining catalytic activity of the obtained catalyst.
