FIELD: organic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and specifically to a method of producing isopropyl alcohol by catalytic liquid-phase hydrogenation of acetone with hydrogen. Hydrogenation is carried out at temperature of 60-140 °C, pressure of 2.0-5.0 MPa, weight rate of 0.8-1.2 g of acetone/(g of catalyst⋅h) and molar ratio hydrogen : acetone from 1.5:1 to 1.2:1, in the presence of a granular catalyst containing not more than 25 wt.% nickel on aluminium oxide. Catalyst is preliminarily subjected to reductive activation. This catalyst is obtained by impregnating aluminium oxide with pore volume of up to 0.9 cm3/g with nickel nitrate, followed by calcination at temperature not higher than 200 °C. At that, before reductive activation the catalyst has a residual content of nitrate ions of not more than 2.5 wt.% due to washing of the catalyst from nitrate ions with base solutions.
EFFECT: increased stability and duration of catalyst operation.
