FIELD: video encoding means.

SUBSTANCE: obtaining image information, which includes information associated with prediction, information associated with luminance display with chroma scaling (LMCS), from a bit stream. Prediction brightness sample is generated based on the information associated with the prediction. Reconstructed luminance sample is generated based on the prediction luminance sample. Index of the piecewise function is derived based on the information associated with the LMCS. Modified reconstructed brightness sample is generated based on the reconstructed brightness sample and a piecewise function index. Minimum bin index and the maximum bin index are derived based on information associated with the LMCS. Outputting the index of the piecewise function comprises: determining whether the first displayed value, in the case where the piecewise function index is equal to the minimum bin index, is greater than the value of the reconstructed brightness sample; determining whether the second displayed value, when the index of the piecewise function is equal to the maximum bin index −1, is greater than the value of the reconstructed brightness sample.

EFFECT: high efficiency of video encoding.
