SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing optically transparent polyimides of general formula:

Method involves high-temperature polycyclisation of equimolar amounts of diamine and dianhydride in a mixture of solvents containing sulpholane, at which reaction mass is heated for 1 hour and held at final temperature, wherein the reaction mass is heated from 20 to 140 °C at rate of 2 degrees per minute in a mixture of solvents containing 80 vol.% sulpholane and 20 vol.% toluene, and held at 140 °C for 1-9 hours with azeotropic distillation of water.

EFFECT: method provides reduced time and temperature of reaction, as well as increased values of reduced viscosity of polyimides.
