SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of hydrophobizing polylactic acid (PLA). Disclosed is a method of producing a PLA compound with reduced moisture absorption, including hydrophobization by introducing water-repellent additives, where water-repellent additives used are 1–5 wt.% of calcium or silicon oxides or 0.5–1.5 wt.% of organic anhydrides of dicarboxylic acids, note here that hydrophobization is carried out under compounding conditions at 5-zone heating at 155–160 °C. Formed strand is subjected to air cooling and granulation.
EFFECT: implementation of the purpose, which consists in obtaining a compound based on polylactic acid (PLA) with reduced moisture absorption compared to its initial base grades, use of which does not affect the process of processing and biodegradation of the compound and articles based thereon.
