FIELD: radiation monitoring.
SUBSTANCE: radiation monitoring system for parallel determination of gamma radiation and neutrons comprises a scintillating crystal containing 127I, digitizer for generating sampled time sequences and an analyzer, wherein the analyzer is configured to identify a primary signal component, a first delayed signal component and a second delayed signal component in sampled time sequences. First and second delayed signal components correspond to energy release of about 30 keV and about 138 keV, respectively, and follow the primary and first delayed signal components in time. Analyzer is additionally configured to count number of sampled time sequences, containing at least the first and second delayed signal components as neutron events, thereby providing a quantitative indicator for the neutron flux with which the scintillating crystal is irradiated.
EFFECT: high sensitivity of iodine-containing scintillation detectors for determining neutrons.
