FIELD: investigating or analyzing of materials.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises the use of unit made of hydrogen-containing scintillating optical members arranged in rows alternatively in two mutually perpendicular directions. The optical members are made of rods of rectangular cross-section. The faces of the scintillation fibers are provided with photodetectors. At least on of the side of the hodoscope unit is provided with two pairs of plates for recording heat neutrons and gamma quanta. Each pair is separated by means of additional plates made of a material that attenuates the radiation. The radiation fluxes coming from outer side and generated inside the hodoscope are separated. The change in the number of photons from one side of the hodoscope unit to the other is recorded. The ratio of light signals from heat neutrons and fast neutrons indicates the presence of the source of fast neutrons, and the gradient of the light signal indicates the direction toward the source.
EFFECT: enhanced precision.
