FIELD: chemical industry.

SUBSTANCE: method of producing hydrogen and nitrogen using a reactor which processes gaseous initial materials, having a reaction chamber, made with possibility of fluid communication with combustion chamber along one or more paths of fluid medium movement. Method includes introducing gaseous starting materials containing hydrocarbons into a reaction chamber; introduction of combustible gas mixture into combustion chamber, wherein the combustible gas mixture contains air and one or more combustible gases. Combustion of a combustible gas mixture in a combustion chamber is carried out in such a way as to obtain one or more gaseous combustion products, including nitrogen, so as to make at least part of one or more gaseous combustion products flow into the reaction chamber along one or more fluid paths and mix with gaseous initial materials. Gaseous starting materials decompose to form one or more gaseous reaction products, including hydrogen. Mixed flow of products is removed from the reactor processing gaseous initial materials, wherein the mixed product stream contains hydrogen from one or more gaseous reaction products and nitrogen from one or more gaseous combustion products; collection of hydrogen and nitrogen from the mixed flow of products. One or more process parameters are varied so that hydrogen and nitrogen are collected in accordance with the desired ratio of 1:1 to 5:1. Also disclosed is a system for producing hydrogen and nitrogen.

EFFECT: group of inventions enables to reduce greenhouse gas emissions when producing hydrogen and nitrogen, which are suitable for synthesis of ammonia, when pyrolysis of gaseous hydrocarbons.
