FIELD: veterinary science.
SUBSTANCE: present invention refers to veterinary medicine, namely to neuro-oncology. It can be used in radiation therapy of pituitary prolactinoma in rats. Method of treatment involves external beam therapy with irradiation of pituitary tumour with ionizing radiation. Irradiation is performed at depth of 15 mm with orientation of the cranial edge of the radiation field along the caudal border of eyeballs of the animal. Treatment is carried out in stages. At the first stage, two fractions are carried out on 1st and 7th day with a single absorbed dose of 10.0 Gy. If the radiation effect is insufficient, the second stage of treatment is carried out in 21 days, and the third fraction is performed with a single dose of 12.0 Gy.
EFFECT: method promotes improvement of quality and life expectancy of rats with pituitary prolactinoma.
