FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to radiation therapy, and can be used in treating patients with disseminated melanoma of skin and mucous membranes with multiple brain metastases. Radiation therapy course is carried out in the mode of extreme hypofractionation for the whole brain volume with intensity modulation by arcs – IMRT-VMAT. Course of treatment includes SBD 6.5 Gy every second day, 3 times a week to TBD 26 Gy. Biological equivalent dose (EQD2) is calculated based on formula LQ. EQD2 on metastatic foci of melanoma of skin and mucous membranes in brain is 71 iGy, with α/β=0.6. EQD2 on the brain substance is 49.4 iGy, with α/β=3. EQD2 on scalp is 35.8 iGy, with α/β=10.
EFFECT: method enables to reduce the risk of the cause of death of the patient from acute neurological attacks, death from intracranial progression, increase local control of intracranial metastatic foci, improve the quality of life, significantly increase life expectancy by using the principle of extreme hypofractionation taking into account high radiosensitivity of skin and mucosal melanoma and its metastases to high single boost doses of radiation exposure.
