SUBSTANCE: invention relates to multi-core optical fiber (MCF). Claimed multi-core optical fiber (MCF) comprises: a plurality of cores comprising a first material; outer shell surrounding cores, wherein the outer shell comprises a first material; plurality of inner shells surrounding the cores, wherein the plurality of inner shells comprises a first material and a first dopant, wherein each core is surrounded by an inner shell of a plurality of inner shells; and a diffusion reducing element. Diffusion reducing element reduces migration of first dopant from inner shells to outer shells, wherein the diffusion reducing element comprises a plurality of diffusion barriers surrounding the inner shells. Diffusion barriers comprise a first material, wherein each inner shell is surrounded by a diffusion barrier of a plurality of diffusion barriers.
EFFECT: improved optical characteristics of multi-core optical fiber (MCF).
