TWO-CHANNEL FARADAY CELL FOR MEASURING ALTERNATING CURRENT IN HIGH-VOLTAGE NETWORKS Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC G01R15/24

Abstract RU 2829569 C1

FIELD: optical instrument making.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical instrument-making, and more specifically to optical current meters, in which the Faraday effect is used. Invention will be used in electric power engineering, for example, in high-voltage networks of various classes. Proposed Faraday cell contains two channels: an accurate one for commercial metering of electric energy and a coarse one for providing operation of relay protection and automation. Each of the channels has a light-supplying multimode light guide, a collimator, a first polariser, a first glass cylinder, a second polariser, a “БР”-180° prism, a second glass cylinder, an additional polariser, a light-collecting lens and a second light guide. Pair of fine channel cylinders is made of “ТФ5” glass, a pair of coarse channel cylinders is made of K8 glass. Both pairs of glass cylinders are fixed inside a solenoid made from a fragment of a current conductor. Transmission planes of the second polarisers coincide with the plane of the main section of the “БР”-180° prisms and make angle of 45° with the first polariser. Transmission plane of the additional polariser makes angle of 90° with the transmission plane of the first polariser.

EFFECT: high accuracy of polarization and simplification due to the fact that there is no distortion of the state of polarization of light beams; wherein, instead of massive glass prisms, each channel employs a pair of glass cylinders with glass volume being approximately 5 times smaller.
