FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used in melting of low-carbon high-chromium grades of stainless steel by duplex process. Carbonaceous semi-finished product is melted in an arc steel-smelting furnace and the melt is further processed in an argon-oxygen refining unit by adding ferrosilicon, lime and flux to liquefy the slag during the reduction period. Flux containing boron oxide is used in amount of 10.0-17.14 g of flux per 1 kg of steel with basicity of slag 1.5-2.0 and temperature of argon-oxygen refining 170 °C.
EFFECT: invention enables to use boron-containing material for reduction of chromium from slag, improves its desulphurisation capacity and partial reduction of boron acting as a microalloying additive.
