FIELD: organic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of phenol, which is an important raw material for chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Method of producing phenol is characterized by that phenol is obtained by oxidation of benzene with ammonium persulphate at 45–80 °C in an alkaline medium in the presence of sodium hydroxide and 30 wt.% hydrogen peroxide with molar ratio of benzene:NaOH:PSA:H2O2 equal to 1:3:1.5:1–8, with intensive stirring for 10–15 hours, extraction of intermediate phenyl sulphate by butanol extraction, hydrolysis of the latter with sulfuric acid at 90 °C and extraction of the target compound by extraction with ethanol with output of 31–60%.
EFFECT: providing a simple method of producing phenol with increased output of the end product.
