FIELD: organic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and specifically to a method of producing phenol, which is an important raw material for chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Proposed method consists in oxidation of benzene with ammonium persulphate (APS) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide at 20-80 °C in an alkaline medium with a molar ratio of benzene:NaOH:APS:H2O2 equal to 1:3:1.5:1-8. Oxidation is carried out in presence of 0.01-0.4 wt.% of an oxidation catalyst selected from phthalocyanines of cobalt, iron (II), iron (III), zinc, manganese, nickel, with intense stirring for 10-15 hours. Intermediate phenyl sulphate is recovered by extraction with normal butanol, hydrolysis is carried out with sulphuric acid at 90 °C, and then the end product is extracted by ethanol extraction.
EFFECT: simple method of producing and increasing output of the end product.
