FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry, specifically to synthesis of 2-pyridone, which is an important raw material for chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Method of producing pyridin-2(1H)-one by oxidation of pyridine in an alkaline medium and subsequent hydrolysis of intermediate 2-pyridinyl sulphate with hydrochloric acid at 85–95 °C is characterized by that oxidation of pyridine is carried out with ammonium persulphate (APS) and hydrogen peroxide as a second oxidant in molar ratio pyridine:NaOH:APS:H2O2, equal to 1:4:1.5:2, temperature of 40–50 °C for 8–12 hours with continuous air bubbling through the reaction mixture.
EFFECT: simple method of producing and increasing output of the end product.
