METHOD FOR DETERMINING VOLUME OF FREE FLUID IN ABDOMINAL CAVITY Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC A61B8/00

Abstract RU 2830196 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to ultrasonic diagnostics. It can be used to determine the volume of free fluid in the abdominal cavity in traumas, ascites, abdominal pain syndrome. Abdominal ultrasound is performed in a certain sequence, starting in area of 10-12 intercostal space along the anterior axillary line, first from the right side of the body, examining the distance between the right lobe of the liver and the right kidney, then from the left side, examining the distance between the spleen and the left kidney. Then the sensor is installed in the suprapubic region, at that in females rectal-uterine cavity is examined, and in males – rectal-cystic cavity. Thereafter, the space between the intestinal loops is examined in the mesogastrium above the umbilical ring to the suprapubic region; the visualized free fluid is assessed in the hepato-renal, splenic-renal spaces and in the lesser pelvis. Further, using the presented formula, the volume of the visualized free liquid is calculated.

EFFECT: method is safe and non-invasive, enables to accurately determine the volume of free fluid in the abdominal cavity.
