FIELD: machining of workpieces.
SUBSTANCE: cutting insert (10) comprises clamping section (12), which comprises at least one coolant channel (34), made in the form of a through hole, and cutting head (14) with at least one cutting element (24), which comprises main cutting edge (26), cutter front surface (30) adjacent to main cutting edge (26), and chip breaking geometric element (32), which protrudes from surface (30) of the cutter or is introduced into the front surface of the cutter, providing chip breaking during processing by main cutting edge (26). Cutting insert (10) comprises cantilever part (16), which connects clamping section (12) with cutting head (14) and has smaller diameter than clamping section (12). Part of cutting head (14) containing chip breaking geometric element (32), if seen along longitudinal axis of cutting insert (10), covers at least 10 % of cross section of channel (34) for coolant, but not more than 80 %. Tool comprises said cutting insert (10) and holder (18) for holding it.
EFFECT: improved chip breaking, higher quality of processing.
