FIELD: drilling work.
SUBSTANCE: cutting insert (10) contains a front surface (52) with a chipbreaker of a special geometric shape, which is particularly suitable for machining titanium and titanium alloys. The geometrical element for shaving formation is made in such a way that it makes it possible to deform the shavings removed from the workpiece along the longitudinal axis rather strongly. The geometrical element for shaving formation is located at least in the rear region (56) of the front surface (52), adjacent from the sides to the first inwardly concave part (46) and the second inwardly concave part (48) of the auxiliary cutting edge (30, 32) of the cutting insert (10). The geometrical element for shaving formation protrudes above the cutting plane (50), in which the main cutting edge (28) of the cutting insert (10) and two rectilinear parts (42, 44) of two auxiliary cutting edges (30, 32,) are located and contains at least at least two areas of rise (66) so that on the front surface (52) in the rear area (56) in an additional cross-section running parallel to the main cutting edge (28), two high points (70) and an intermediate second lower point (72), located equidistantly from the first inwardly concave part (46) and the second inwardly concave part (48). The rake angle relative to the main cutting edge (28) changes so that the rake angle γ1 at the center (60) of the main cutting edge (28), located halfway from the first end (34) and the second end (36) of the main cutting edge (28) exceeds the rake angle γ2 in the zone of the first and/or second ends (34, 36).
EFFECT: improved chip removal by reducing its width.
