FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to ophthalmology. Intraocular parameters are examined; patients with severe chronic ischemic retinopathy are examined for photosensitivity of the macula by microperimetry using the MAIA apparatus (CenterVue, Italy) by testing in Macula-12 program at 36 points within 1° from the fixation point. If observing the average photosensitivity of macula 15.7 dB and less, a complicated clinical course of chronic ischemic retinopathy after carotid endarterectomy of the internal carotid artery is predicted. If the average photosensitivity of the macula is more than 15.7 dB, an uncomplicated postoperative course of chronic ischemic retinopathy is predicted.
EFFECT: method enables non-invasive, safe, effective and highly informative prediction of developing retinal complications in patients with severe chronic ischemic retinopathy after carotid endarterectomy of the internal carotid artery.
