NEUROMODULATION METHOD FOR TREATING CONSEQUENCES OF SPINAL CORD INJURY Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC A61N1/18 A61N1/32

Abstract RU 2831229 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to restorative and regenerative medicine, neurosurgery, rehabilitation and neurology. Transtraumatic epidural electrical stimulation is performed, wherein the electrical stimulation is performed directly in the spinal cord segments adjacent to the neurotrauma epicentre, in particular, in case of neurotrauma in lower thoracic spine at level of Th5-Th9: 8–9th thoracic vertebrae, electrical stimulation is performed above epicentre of injury at level of Th5: 5th thoracic vertebra and below epicentre of injury at level of L2: 2nd lumbar vertebra. Procedure is performed in two sessions of 30 minutes each in the morning and in the evening every second day; during the morning session, the electrical stimulation is performed above the epicentre of the neurotrauma with current intensity of 7–15 mA, frequency of 20–25 Hz and pulse duration of 0.2 ms. During the evening session, the electrical stimulation is performed below the epicentre of the neurotrauma with current intensity of 13–25 mA, frequency of 20–25 Hz and pulse duration of 0.2 ms.

EFFECT: method enables experimentally confirming the improvement of the functional state of the spinal cord after a contusion injury with underlying neuromodulation.
