FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to traumatology. In order to treat traumatic spinal cord injury, gene therapy and epidural electrical stimulation are performed. First, four hours after the spinal cord injury, 2×106 genetically modified mononuclear human umbilical cord blood cells, overexpressing recombinant human genes, encoding neurotrophic factors, namely vascular endothelial growth factor VEGF and glial cell derived neurotrophic factor GDNF and the neuronal cell adhesion molecule NCAM, are injected intrathecally. Then, after spinal shock relief, two-level epidural electrical stimulation of the spinal cord with a unidirectional current with a frequency of 25 to 35 Hz, a current strength of 7 to 25 mA and a pulse duration of 0.2 ms is started using a Digitimer DS7A electrical stimulator in the morning, wherein the procedure includes stimulation above the injury at the C5 vertebra level, and in the evening, wherein the procedure is aimed at excitation of stepping generators below the injury at the L2 vertebra level simultaneously with exercising on a treadmill.

EFFECT: method ensures effective neurorehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury.
