FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to descaling using at least one cleaning laser of the surface of a movable metal article. Cleaning is carried out sequentially at each section of a plurality of successive sections of the moved article. First, determining the threshold value of the energy density, which removes the scale layer on the considered section of the said movable metal article, wherein said energy corresponds to the minimum value of energy density required for removal of scale layer in the area under consideration. For this purpose, test laser pulses are supplied to a segment of said section under consideration by means of a transmitting system comprising a laser source, to form on said segment an area cleaned from a layer of scale, wherein the test laser pulses have the same wavelength and duration as the pulses of the cleaning laser(s). Capturing an image of a segment of a surface which has been exposed to said test laser pulses, and determining the size characterizing the cleaned area based on said image. Threshold value of the energy density which removes the scale layer is estimated based on the specified characteristic size and information on the energy profile of the test laser pulses. By means of cleaning laser cleaning laser pulses are supplied to the section under consideration for its cleaning, wherein the energy density of the cleaning pulses exceeds said certain threshold value of the energy density which removes the scale layer. With the help of a control unit, which receives said certain threshold value of energy density, removing the scale layer, adjusting the cleaning laser so that each point of the area under consideration is exposed to radiation with energy density at least one moment, exceeding threshold value of energy density, removing scale layer.

EFFECT: efficient removal of scale from the surface of transported metal products.
