FIELD: foundry.

SUBSTANCE: method of producing a centrifugally cast iron-carbon crucible with a protective layer on the inner surface includes placing a graphite insert on the working surface of the mould, loading the material into the mould to produce the crucible, rotating the mould and removing the crucible therefrom. Crucible material used is iron-aluminium thermite, which is ignited, and after the thermite reaction, the mould is rotated for 30-60 s relative to the vertical axis at rate of 330-370 rpm. Graphite insert prevents destruction of the mould by the thermite melt formed as a result of the thermite reaction, which contains iron and aluminium oxide slag. Iron is saturated with carbon from the insert. When the mould rotates, under the action of centrifugal force, the melt rises up the insert, forming the crucible wall, and part of it remains at the mould bottom, forming the crucible bottom, wherein the slag, which density is lower than that of iron, is deposited on the inner surface of the crucible wall and its bottom, forming a protective coating of aluminium oxide.
