FIELD: measuring.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement of properties of optical fibres. Method involves introducing polarized radiation into the fibres with its minimization by the analyser at the output of the fibre, pressing the roller with a constant force to said fibre and moving it along the fibre. Beat length is calculated based on the periodic change in time of the radiation detected by the photodetector and the speed of the roller.

EFFECT: disclosed is a method of measuring the beat length of polarization modes in light guides which preserve polarization of radiation.
