METHOD FOR SURGICAL REINFORCEMENT WITH SCLERA STAPHYLOMAS Russian patent published in 2025 - IPC A61F9/07

Abstract RU 2833536 C1

FIELD: medicine; ophthalmology.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for treating patients with scleral staphylomas of various aetiologies. That is ensured by incising the conjunctiva through staphylomas apexes. Conjunctiva is separated through the incisions to the eye limb and equator. 4 cm long skin incision is made in the area of a temple after the surgical field and local infiltration anesthesia. Then, the underlying tissues are bluntly dissected to reach the area of temporal muscle. Temporal fascia autograft is cut out with a diameter depending on the size and number of staphylomas. Wound on a temple is closed in layers with a non-absorbable suture Mopylen 5/0. Cut out autograft of temporal fascia is divided into required number of parts, depending on the number and size of the staphylomas so that each of the parts can overlap the staphyloma zone with the capture of the unaffected sclera on each side by 3 mm. Temporal fascia autograft is laid over the staphyloma and fixed to the unaffected sclera with interrupted absorbable sutures 7/0. Tenon's membrane flaps are separated from intermuscular spaces, which are then laid on top of the staphylomas covered with an autograft. Tenon's membrane flaps are fixed with interrupted absorbable sutures 7/0 together with conjunctiva along limb.

EFFECT: invention enables to strengthen the staphylomas area and achieve a tight closure of the defect due to the high strength, density and elasticity of the autograft of the temporal fascia, to obtain a good functional and cosmetic result in the absence of visible postoperative scars in the area of autograft sampling, to avoid using the cadaver donor material.
