FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to heat exchange systems, namely to liquid heat carriers. Disclosed is a liquid heat carrier based on glycol, which inhibits corrosion and contains more than 5 wt.% from the total weight of the glycol composition, selected from the group consisting of monoethylene glycol, monopropylene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, glycerol or combinations thereof; and more than 1 wt.%, but less than 10 wt.% of the total weight of the composition of a short-chain organic carboxylic acid or a salt thereof, selected from a group consisting of C2-organic carboxylic acids or salts thereof, C3-organic carboxylic acids or salts thereof and combinations thereof. Total amount of glycol and short-chain organic carboxylic acid or its salt is more than 15 wt.% of the total weight of the composition. Composition has pitting corrosion potential of aluminium greater than 2500 mV when determined by fast cyclic potentiokinetic polarization scanning (RCP). As a corrosion inhibitor, the composition contains a long-chain organic carboxylic acid selected from a group consisting of C6-C16 organic carboxylic acids or salts thereof.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain glycol-based heat carriers containing reduced amounts of long-chain organic carboxylate, at that, having comparable or improved inhibition of aluminium alloy corrosion; besides, the invention allows extending the service life of the liquid heat carrier.
