FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: according to the proposed method, the point of phase-to-phase damage is determined from measurements of two devices installed at the ends of the power transmission line (PTL). In each device, based on a wave process signal, a comparator determines the polarity of the primary wave and the polarity of the waves following it, wherein working waves are those whose polarity coincides with the polarity of the primary wave, and the moment of arrival is at a distance from the moment of arrival of the primary wave for a time not exceeding the time of travel of the wave of double the length of the damaged branch. Information on durations of intervals between the moments of arrival of working waves and the moment of arrival of the primary wave is obtained, and a pair of equal ones is detected among said durations of intervals of two devices. True distance to the point of phase-to-phase damage is the distance to the point in the damaged branch, to which the wave will reach from the point of its connection to the power transmission line for half the duration of the interval of the said detected pair.
EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of determining the distance to the location of phase-to-phase damage on a power transmission line (PTL) with branches.
