FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used for steel making in oxygen converter. Method includes pouring of vanadium cast iron or carbon metal-semi-finished product, metal blowing with oxygen from above, addition of lime and additional materials. Before oxygen blowdown and in the course of blowing, magnesia material with ratio of CaO to MgO of not more than 0.4 by weight equivalent is added to the bath of the oxygen converter in an amount providing the MgO concentration in the final steel slag of 8–18 wt.% with the steel slag basicity of 2.5–7.5 and depending on the carbon content for steel grades, combined into groups according to the lower limit of the carbon grade value, and after the steel is drained into the ladle, slag scull is applied on the refractory lining by blowing the steel-making slag with nitrogen, during which magnesia materials are added with MgO content from 30 wt.% to 49 wt.% and weight loss during ignition from 35 wt.% to 52 wt.%.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at reducing the risks of emergencies, increasing the duration of operation of the refractory lining, reducing the consumption of magnesia materials, increased wear resistance of skull layer, increased resistance of refractory lining of converter.
