FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to evaluation of fatigue strength of material in order to obtain information required to predict its behaviour during operation in certain conditions. Method involves obtaining a fracture crack on the surface of the alloy, obtaining an initial image of the crack on a computer screen using an electron microscope, determining the fractal dimension of the image by superimposing a calibration set on the initial image obtained on the computer screen. A Palmqvist crack is obtained from the Vickers indent, its linear length is determined using scanning electron microscopy, the image is then covered with squares of the same area, the side length of which is expressed in pixels. Number of squares is recorded on the computer screen and the fractal dimension of the crack outline is calculated using computer processing, after which the length of the Palmqvist crack is calculated depending on the magnification of the image by formula.
EFFECT: simplification and increase of information content of the method.
