FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed are: a recombinant DNA molecule, which imparts resistance to coleopteran insects, and methods for its detection, DNA probe for detecting the presence of a DNA molecule, a pair of DNA primers for producing an amplicon, which enables to diagnose the presence of a DNA molecule, and methods for determining zygosity of a maize plant or a maize seed containing a DNA molecule. Also disclosed are: a maize plant having resistance to maize coleopteran insects, and a method for its production, a plant-descendant of maize for propagation of a maize plant, a cell and a seed of maize, a method of protecting maize plants from insect infestation, where said method involves introduction of insecticide effective amount of cells or tissues of maize plants and non-living plant material of maize into the diet of coleopteran insects-pests.
EFFECT: invention is used to protect maize plants from insect infestation.
