FIELD: smoking accessories.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to tobacco industry, in particular, to devices simulating tobacco smoking process. Apparatus for generating an aerosol from an aerosol-forming substrate comprises a light-emitting indicator having two light-emitting units configured to display any of at least four different indication modes during a session of use. Controller is configured to control the light-emitting indicator to display any of the at least four indication modes to indicate the progress of the usage session. Usage session comprises at least four successive phases. Any or each of the at least four successive phases has a maximum phase duration determined by the timer. Device is configured in such a way that a session of use has a maximum duration determined by a timer. Device is configured to record at least one parameter of interaction with the user during a usage session. Duration of the phase of any or each of the at least four successive phases has a duration less than the maximum duration of the phase when the value of the parameter of interaction with the user reaches a given threshold.
EFFECT: preventing an attempt to generate an aerosol when the aerosol-forming substrate is consumed, as well as improved safety owing to switching the heater to a deactivated state if the user forgets that a session of use has started.
