SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of operating an aerosol-generating device for generating an aerosol from an aerosol-forming substrate during a session of use and an aerosol generating device comprising a power supply unit for supplying power to the heater during a session of use; and control electronics for controlling the power supply from the power supply to the heater. Method involves using control electronics for the following: binding the puff carried out in the use session with the corresponding target operating temperature for the heater based on the total puff number relating to the puff carried out in the use session, and based on the time interval between the tightening performed and the earlier drawing carried out in the use session; and for the performed tightening of the power supply control from the power supply unit to adjust the temperature of the heater to the target operating temperature associated with the performed drawing.
