FIELD: aerosol-generating systems.

SUBSTANCE: aerosol generator for heating an aerosol-generating substrate to generate a respirable aerosol during a use session is disclosed. The aerosol generator includes control electronics and an external light array partially or completely surrounding the internal light array. The control electronics are connected to the external and internal light arrays. The control electronics are adapted to: i) selectively activate one of the outer and inner light arrays to generate a first predetermined light emission conveying first data indicating the state of the aerosol generator; and ii) selectively activating another of the outer and inner light arrays to generate a second predetermined light emission conveying second data indicating the state of the aerosol generator. The first data and the second data are different from each other. It is possible for each light array to transmit separately different data to the user.

EFFECT: generating a respirable aerosol during a use session.
